NEUMANN GMBH M 49 with K 47 after repair
The M49 debuted in 1949 . The microphone was designed on contract for the IRT, the governmental regulating arm of the German broadcast system. The salient feature of the M49 was that it was the first condenser microphone capable of remote pattern control, achieved through electronic means. By varying the rear-diaphragm voltage against the backplate reference, a full range of patterns, from omni to cardioid to figure-8, was accomplished. A Dr. Grosskopf held the patent on this method of pattern selection. The 49 had several other interesting features, including one of the first attempts to limit the effect of grille ...
Georg Neumann & Co. CMV3
This is exceptional Andreas work on Neumann CMV 3 The CMV designation as to "Condensator Mikrofon Verstärker" (condenser microphone amplifier) and the number three probably indicates that two earlier prototype versions existed. “Bottle mic,” the CMV3 had an omnidirectional M1 capsule with large, gold-sputtered colloidan (later switched to PVC) diaphragms with RE084 triode-based tube electronics. Neumann with Erich Rickmann, founded Georg Neumann & Co. in Berlin in November 1928. This year also Neumann released the CMV3—the first produced condenser mic.

When front was in 1943 closer and closer to Berlin the laboratory was seriously damaged with bomb and fire attack.Neumann had to make decision to relocate to town Gefell. There they started to produce the first microphone with M7 capsule.
M7 capsule-article by AG
M7 capsule The M7 capsule first showed up in 1933 and was skinned with a 10µm PVC. The material back then had to be – and still is today at MTG as well as STM – casted on water. ( The thickness of the material fluctuates between 10 and 12µm. After the war Neumann Berlin obtained their M7 capsules from Gefell, later on only the membranes . In 1955 Neumann Berlin hired a chemist responsible for the production of membrane films . In 1956 the first M7 capsules with PET polyestermembrane showed up. Those new capsules had a much better longterm ...
Neumann U47 long body after repair
Georg Neumann GmbH manufactured U47 during the years 1949-1965. The U 47 used the M 7 capsule originally developed for the CMV 3 microphone ("Neumann bottle"). Later M7 with PE and later K47 capsuel. The U 47's circuitry was based on the Telefunken VF 14 M vacuum tube; its discontinuation was caused primarily by the decision by Telefunken to halt production of the VF 14.

Tube condenser microphone CMV5/B is a successor of CMV3. The microphone use condenser microphone capsules M7 , M8, M9 with a bayonet mounting, and EF12 tube and also was there version with VF14.After war was hard to supply these tubes from factories so for the mic was also used for example RE084,6J7,EF6 and EF36 from different factories as Telefunken , RCA, Philips and Mullard. These pictures are CMV 5/B after Andreas repair
A description of all transformers in U47 -article by AG
a description of all in the U 47 microphone used transformers: 1. The oldest transformer used in the U 47 P (same amplifier, but with a Z2 adapter for the M7 capsule) 2. First transformer in the U 47, used in microphones up to a serial number of around 700, mounted in the frame vertically manufactured by Neumann & Co. Gefell, 32 x 40 mm Type GN 107 3. Second transformer in the U 47, serial number between about 700 and 1300, mounted vertically with the frame manufactured by Neumann GmbH Berlin, 30 x 35 mm Type BV-08 (it's hardly possible to distinguish from the ...
Andreas Grosser Fans Web
[Read more]
